Smart Pure Text

I really enjoy text messaging, and SMS-craziness is one of my favorite quirks of modern Filipino culture, but this is ridiculous. A prepaid card should leave the phone’s basic functionality intact, even if reloading only adds text credits. Deactivating the subscriber’s voice calls for the sake of SMS is just too extreme and anti-user, no matter how well-documented the “feature” may be.

Maybe they’re taking a cue from the Motorola 2-way pagers that have become popular in the US. It’s ridiculous to hear that cellphones can’t even be used to make calls with the concept, but I think Smart does have a workable and potentially profitable idea with the “text only” service.

Although next time they should probably put “bye-bye incoming calls” in larger print.

It’s a good idea to make a SMS only card. I just hope it doesn’t block out 911 calls.

The idea may be good but to block even incoming calls? that’s too much.
