I woke up too late to reach worship at Valerie’s church this morning, so I hopped across Inner Harbor to scope out the service at Old Otterbein, the oldest church in Baltimore. It was my first Methodist service, though the format was largely similar to that of most conservative Protestant services I’d attended at other Presbyterian and traditional Baptist churches in the past. The people were warm and welcoming, the hymns were heartfelt, the sermon was stirring, and post-worship biscuits and iced tea (too hot a day for coffee!) were quite good. Definitely a church I’ll be returning to during my stay here in Bawlmer.
Since I’m still in the church-hopping stage, perhaps I should sign up to become a Mystery Worshipper? On the other hand, I’m not sure I have the heart needed to give publicly negative reviews to a bad church.
