You didn’t think I’d go on without answering Valerie’s quiz, did you?

1. Which blogger have you known longest online?

Michelle was the first blogger I ever linked to, but she stopped blogging years ago. I hope she’s happy wherever she is now. And Ol’ Russ Young was the second blogger I ever linked, and I emailed him, wondering what the heck ‘Reformed’ meant and expressing concern that his ‘about me’ page had a social security number on it.

2. Which blogger have you known longest IRL?

Definitely Raffy. We’ve known each other since high school.

I knew Rowie before she was a philosophy teacher.

I knew Angie when she was light and bubbly! And she still is!

I knew Toni when we all called her Smurfette! And we still do!

I knew Ganns when he was still single and makulit. Now he’s married and makulit.

We were all in the same barkada.

3. Which blogger have you spent the most time with IRL?

Considering we were in the same high school glee club, college BA, and video post production company over a span of seven years, Raffy is definitely my IRL pal. But since I got to Baltimore, Valerie has been an absolute sweetheart.

4. Which blogger would you most like to meet IRL?

Anarthrous Dane and all the SoCal Reformed Posse.

To meet Russ I’d probably need a ladder.

I need to make sure Brandon and Wendy have been using that gravy ladle for its intended purpose.

I want to meet Dani and show off my Australian accent to her. And maybe challenge her to a vegemite-eating contest. And wrestle some crocs.

Someday Tim and I will have an iBook duel.

I’ve always wanted to meet Dawn and Jason … but I’ll have to wear a bulletproof vest.

I absolutely MUST know who the mysterious Bene D is!

5. Which blogger do you think has the best blog design?

Sara, because the polar bear is cute.

Ganns, because the blinking eyes are cute, even though frames and iframes are of the devil.

The Dane, because that young girl in the upper left corner is so cute.

Kristen, because the picture is cute.

6. Which blogger do you like most to argue with?

Paulo and I are at constant war with each other.

7. Which blogger makes you laugh the most?

It’s a tie between the Barber and the Beer Bach.

8. Which blogger intimidates you the most?

I can never seem to come up with a suitable response to the Dane’s theological profundities until months later.

9. Which blogger do you most wish would post more often?

That blogs4God mixed-sex collaborative entity needs more interactivity, s/he does.

CVS, fink, finkcommander, devtools, Jaguar, tcsh, bash, and a partridge in a pear tree.

To install CVS on my iBook, I had to get Fink. To use Fink, I had to install the Apple Devtools kit. Fink had problems with the devtools’ C compiler, so I had to get a newer devtools package from ADC. (265MB download with patches!) To ease up on command line stress, I got Fink Commander. Just as I had finished that up, Fink for Jaguar came out. After selfupdating and installing CVS and running it and failing and setting my CVSROOT and CVS_RSH environment variables and testing SSH and trying again, CVS still won’t work properly.

Keith, our guru at work, says I should try using bash instead of tcsh. That is beyond my comprehension. To set OS X Jaguar’s Terminal to run bash by default, open /Applications/ Utilities/ Netinfo Manager, go to users/ yourusername, and change the “shell” environment variable from “tcsh” to “bash.”

Update: Oh, great. All that, and now I find that the Fink package table for fink0.5.0a doesn’t have a CVS port yet. I surrender.

Froogle is Google’s new shopping catalog search engine. Cute name. It’s “frugal!” Get it? Get it?

Everyone in the office looked at me oddly when I said I’d come out in the Guardian. Turns out my pronunciation of the word was a bit too, um, Pinoy.

I’ll be sure to say “gahr-dee-yun” next time, okay?

Guardian on Mobile Blogs

My mobile blog gets brief mention in The Guardian. The way I went about making the thing was a bit of a hack, though; it needs an AIM account, an AIM-capable cellphone, Blogger, and Bloggerbot — all simultaneously working, which is not always the case — to be of use, and even then only up to 150 characters. Still, I’m having fun.

(I really don’t like the apellation “moblog.” The term sounds too much like “Smart Mob”, so I think that “mobile blog” will suffice for me, despite the extra syllable.)

I just received an email from Randall Packer, acclaimed audio/multimedia artist and professor of network art at MICA. Apparently I have achieved a small level of notoriety among some of the faculty for my *cough* 1337 skillz *cough*, and am now being invited to help out with a collaborative blog, and possibly even join the Advanced Network Art class for the Spring semester.

I’m seriously considering it. I’m also trying not to get a big head.
