Brief Temporal Adjustment

I’ve temporarily reduced the number of days displayed in my weblog because (1) the W3 validator doesn’t like ampersands in certain earlier URL’s; and (2) I’m adjusting my random layouts to be able to display a blog column shorter than the menu column without looking ugly. Please tell me if you have problems.

New Photos

(Hey, my last two posts both ended with the syllables “for” and “ever.” Isn’t that amazing. Ooooh. Aaaah.)

I’ve added more photos, mostly to the “Manila Scenes” album. My checklist of “Photos I Want To Take Of Manila” is officially complete, so I won’t be adding any other photos to that album for a long while.

Blessing

These past few days have seen a rich shower of blessing from the Lord, through the generous and loving help of so many different people in my life. In this time of looming transition, I am grateful for all the help I’ve received through them. Truly, the Lord is a mighty guardian, and an ever-present aid in times of need. Praise Him forever.

William… Shatner’s… Weblog!

William Shatner seems to have taken a cue from Wil Wheaton with his new Bill’s Space, a semi-weblog type of journal with updated personal reflections by Shatner himself, with links to a message board for fan interaction. It’s a nice touch, and I think it’s sincere, if slightly contrived. (Never mind what the others think.)

I only regret that he didn’t call it “Captain’s Blog.”

Errata

ERRATA:

1. In Jan 2002, Brownpau.com mistakenly placed the location of Hei Chin Rou Restaurant at the corner of Pasay Road and Amorsolo, near the San Lorenzo Gate, and acknowledged (in the now defunct comments section of that post) the demolition of said restaurant from that location. In actuality, Hei Chin Rou did not close down, but simply moved to a neighboring building. The new Hei Chin Rou is still open on Pasay Road, not far from its original location.

2. In Feb 2002, Brownpau.com rather ignorantly perceived the Zwinglian interpretation of the Lord’s Supper as representing the majority of Evangelical Protestantism’s view of the sacrament, to be corrected in the Comments section of that post by a faithful reader. Brownpau.com has since undertaken some research, and as a result, has converted to a Calvinist view of the Eucharist.

3. Also in Feb 2002, Brownpau.com mistakenly directed enthusiasts of the Philippine Historical Diorama Exhibit to the Stock Exchange Building on Ayala Ave, quite ignoring the numerous banners in Park Square and Glorietta, announcing the new location of the dioramas at the 3rd level of Glorietta 2. The dioramas can indeed be viewed at the latter location, while a minor extension of the museum with various other works is available at the former.

Brownpau.com regrets these weblogging errors, and apologizes for any confusion, death, injury, or apostate heresy that may have been caused by their having been posted.

Wordstar 5

I was rummaging around old files from my pre-college days, and found something worth adding to the Downloads page: a working copy of Wordstar 5. (Link is at bottom of page, under Really Old Stuff.) Does anyone still remember using that?

Along with it, I found a pair of unfinished drafts for Star Trek novels I wrote in early high school. Oh my gosh, I can’t believe I was ever such a campy fanboy: One is about a feline alien doctor assigned to the Enterprise (old series) to revisit his home planet, while the other is about a human on the Next-Gen Enterprise who mutates into a rat. Hee hee! The quality of my writing back then was so embarassing it gives me goosebumps to read it today. I sure hope there are no stray printouts left out there to shame me.

I’m still debating on whether I should put them up here on my site, sort of a therapeutic purge surge. What do you think?

Dead Rat and Co.

Remember the dead rat? Since then, I’ve been gifted with two dead maya birds and yet another dead rat. (The second rat was a slightly messier kill, judging from the fresh blood oozing onto the tiles.) I don’t know why I bother feeding these stray kittens when it’s pretty evident that they’re lethal hunters all on their own. ^^,

Palm Expense Tracker?

Update: I’m now using Splashmoney. It’s not free, but it’s the best working software for the job.

Currently looking for a good freeware expenses tracker for Palm. Anyone have suggestions?

I used to do my accounting by logging purchases and expenses into an old-fashioned notebook. (You remember those, right? I wrote them in with something called a “ballpen.”) Now I want to take my budgeting into the wireless realm, and I’m finding that existing freeware apps don’t really provide the simple and straightforward logging functions I’m looking for. Maybe a simple spreadsheet?

Say hi to Yen and her new blog!

DTV Glossary

PBS Glossary of Digital TV Terms. I used to work in digital video, and I may go back to it, so I need to refresh my memory on this stuff. (That’s how I know that JPEG compression noise is called “artifacts.” ^^,)

Just a tip, Filipino coffee-drinkers: Bon Vivant, the local brand of brewed coffee in a teabag, sucks. Bleh. Some milk and a LOT of sugar makes it taste better, though.
