Ledhead. Must remember to download that later, so I can play old-style Game and Watch on my Palm.

No Smoking Starbucks in Vienna
“It takes some hubris to bring an American coffee shop to Vienna, the city of cafes, and then to ban smoking in it.“ But that’s what Starbucks did, and it seems to have worked.
Paul Amurao and W32/Perrun
A Filipino named Paul Amurao claims to have been the creator of the W32/Perrun “JPEG virus,” according to this Inq7 story. And here’s his site. Why this unceasing repetition of the words “desperate” and “lame,” I wonder? Why so desperate about the lameness of a “picture” virus that doesn’t even work unless an executable comes into the system first?
Index37 and the “clear” fix
Raffy tells me that Index 37‘s blog column was getting bumped below the sidebar in IE5/Mac. I’ve attempted to rectify the error with another “clear: left” property on the blog DIV, but having no access to a Mac, I can’t verify that it has worked. Any IE5/Mac users want to check it for me?
(I’m well aware that other indexes probably don’t look so great in IE5/Mac, which is worrisome to me. Fixing those Mac display problems will have to be my next project, considering that more and more people are switching.)
CSS Hacks for IE5/Win
I was somewhat annoyed to discover last Saturday that on certain photo pages, extremely wide pictures would get bumped below the left-floated menu side bar in IE5/Win. Additionally, strange wrapping errors would occur with the main content DIV on text-heavy pages, owing to discrepancies in different browsers’ non-standard interpretations of CSS padding and margin declarations. Applying an extra “float: left” property to the main content DIV would fix its position in IE, but cause the whole DIV to get bumped down in Opera and Mozilla; while removing the float and relying on a “margin-left: ” property for the content DIV would give insufficient margin to the main content in IE, causing unsightly overlaps where it wrapped improperly around the menu sidebar.
The problem with large photos getting bumped down was finally fixed with a “clear: right” property added to the main content DIV. I have no idea why, but it worked.
The wrapping problem was fixed using Tantek’s box model hack, which is not only a useful tool for rendering boxes with IE-specific padding and width, but can also fool IE5/Win into obeying phantom floats, while using more compliant margin properties outside the hack for standards-compatible broswers.
Opera and CSS overflows
I’ve downloaded and installed the latest version of Opera (6.03), and it still doesn’t support CSS overflows. Designers, please take note.
Ang Panatang Makabayan
Since I’ve been getting an inordinate number of hits for “Panatang Makabayan” searches, I’m giving it its own page on my site. Mga kapwa-Pinoy, Ang Panatang Makabayan. Bow.
(By the way, that’s the old one. I don’t know if Roco’s revised version has taken effect yet.)
Washington DC Photo Album
I’ve uploaded a new DC album, consisting of mostly hackneyed shots of the standard Washington sights. The unique part is that I took most of those pictures while on rollerblades. You can’t see the rollerblades, but I assure you I was on them as I snapped the photos.
(Reminder to self: NEVER GET PHOTOS DONE AT CVS PHARMACY 1-HOUR DEVELOPING. EVER. AGAIN. Many prints came out dark and discolored, so I had to do some major retouching.)
Instapundit and Isntapundit
Desert Pundit pointed out in my comments that while there’s Instapundit, there’s also Isntapundit. That just bloggles the mind.
(“Blog King?!” I thought Kottke was the Blog King! And I guess that would make Meg the Blog Queen.)
