Dave Barry goes to the Smithsonian after Thanksgiving. I regularly went to the Air and Space on summer Saturdays, and it was always packed. I loved it; the tourist crunch always gives me a strangely peaceful sense of superiority, like a lion surveying his domain. But only because I’m a local.
Star Trek Song Lyrics
Lest you think that Enterprise has the corniest theme song of any Star Trek series, remember that Alexander Courage’s theme for the original Star Trek also had lyrics, by Gene Roddenberry himself. Feel free to sing along:
“Beyond
The rim of the starlight
My love
Is wand’ring in star flight
I know he’ll find in star clustered reaches
Love, strange love a star woman teaches
“I know
His journey ends never
His Star Trek
Will go on forever
But tell him
While he wanders his starry sea
Remember
Remember me!”
Jupiter, No!
BAD Jupiter! BAD, BAD gas giant!
For the second time in a week, humanity watched in fear and awe as a mysterious arm, estimated to be some 3 million light years across, once again appeared to part the black fabric of space, point an angry finger directly at Jupiter, and shout “No!”
NationalParks.com
We launched US NationalParks.com last week. I designed it under a phase of mild OS X inebriation, which should explain the goopy curves and horizontal lines.
The mountain graphic? Letter “M” in Webdings.
And just for the record, the longest name for a national park is Quinebaug & Shetucket Rivers Valley National Heritage Corridor. Yee-haw.
Update, Aug 2005: It’s now USNationalParks.com.
CSS Rounded Corners
Jesper just pointed me to Bullet-Proof Rounded Corners in CSS. Perhaps there’s hope for Index 47 after all.
Jaromir
Come the third LOTR movie, we may yet see that Jar Jar versus Gollum battle after all.
For Sale
Hey folks, I’m selling my old laptop, Palm handheld, and peripherals over on DC Craigslist. There’s a Dell Latitude CPI PII-300, a parallel-port 100MB zip drive, a Predator eternal external USB CD-RW drive, and a Palm IIIxe with serial to USB adapter. You can get the whole caboodle for $550. All prices negotiable. Get ’em while they’re hot.
Big Dead Place
Living in Antarctica can sure make you cynical. (Link via BoingBoing.)
Starship Exeter
Now that, my friends, is one heck of a Star Trek project.
