Big Moon Illusion

Beautiful photos of the Moon occulting Saturn. Speaking of which, you know how the moon looks really big as it’s rising over the horizon? It’s all an illusion.

    It’s an optical illusion: To test this trick, take the forefinger and thumb of each hand and form a little “diamond” with them, putting the tips of each finger against the other to make a little viewfinder. View the moon through this and no matter how big it seems, once you block out the surrounding elements (like buildings, trees, and hills), the moon in fact never changes size.

    Boy, that tip is one for the geek books :P hehehe
