Dharma, Hanso, Hits, Virals, Smartdust, and More Lost Stuff

Some spoilers may follow, but first, a look at my stats for the month so far:

See those spikes in my hits? Those are from people searching for "Dharma Initiative" and "Hanso Foundation" while those entries were at or near the top of popular search engine listings. They've dropped off the first page of results now, but still, I've garnered 218 comments from Lost fans so far, and it's still going. (Of course, a good number of these comments are just inattentive viral-marketing-susceptible fans leaving yet another repost of "OMG OCEANIC-AIR.COM HAS A SEATING CHART FULL OF CLICKABLE SPOILERS AND THE PASSWORD TO THE ZOMBIE SCRIPT PAGE IN OCEANFLIGHT815.COM IS THEISLANDISWAITING AND I THINK THE NUMBERS ARE COORDINATES AND HAVE YOU SEEN MRCLUCKS AND BIGSPACESHIP1 I LOVE LOST SO MUCH!!!1!!11")
Anyway, I'm revising my theory on the black smoke monster, after looking over one of the official viral sites, BigSpaceship1.com. (The Morse code in the title bar, according to MostlyMuppet, says "Sometimes a polar bear is just a polar bear," and later on, says "In girum imus nocte et consumimur igni.") If you go there with a "wwww" prefix, you'll find a single word, "Smartdust," also mirrored at Smartdust.com. (Update: Well, not anymore; the wwww now goes to an iPod news site. DNS issues, I guess.) This leads me to think that the black smoke monster is not an alien, but a nanobot cloud, which is in keeping with the mysterious sci-tech background provided to the island by the Dharma subplot. But then, this is based on a single unadorned compound word posted to a typo-based subdomain which no longer works.
It's also been pointed out that the B.F. Skinner reference in "Orientation" might imply that the whole "Numbers Game" played by Desmond and now by the Lost survivors is an elaborate behavioral experiment; but that still doesn't explain the strange chance-altering effect the numbers have on people's lives, or what electromagnetic forces are at work at Dharma Station 3. Also, Dr. Marvin Candle seems to have a prosthetic left arm, which explains his one-handed "Namaste."
And Kate loves Sawyer now. Jack's going to be crushed. CRUSHED.
"Lost" viral sites roundup. Watch for the easter eggs:
- Oceanic Air
- Oceanic Flight 815
- The Hanso Foundation
- BigSpaceship1.com
- BigSpaceship1.org (Redacted, heh.)
- Mister Clucks
- Driveshaft Band (Update: Turns out it's not official, just some very involved fans.)
- The Dharma Initiative (Don't know if it's actually official, but it comes with a mysterious URL-via-MD5-hash-based login to tickle your fancy. Mostly Muppet has more on the Dharma login conundrum.)
Update: I closed the old comments threads, as the whole page was getting longer than I was comfortable with on a weblog. Those who enjoyed the discussion can still continue on this page. And don't forget to check out DCeiver's latest Pompatus of Lost episode recap.
Update 2: Now the officialness of a lot of the viral sites is doubtful, given commenter Kerri's info that they're registered to an "Anna" who claims not to be connected to ABC, and is conducting some kind of "media experiment." Ah well, maybe I'll just stop hunting for new virals and just sit back to enjoy the show at its own pace. It is just TV after all.

I found this on MostlyMuppet and thought it was interesting. It's a collage of photos giving the notion that the people on the boat are the DeGroots. Here it is.
Really interesting, Kerri! That, plus the IMDB entry for Thomas Gibson as "Greg De Groot" (scroll down to "Notable TV Guest Appearances) is a fairly evident sign that the De Groots are going to figure in this a lot more. (On the other hand, he might just be appearing on another scratched-up Dharma Feature Film with One Hand Marvin.)
BTW, I removed your extra "target=" link because it doesn't validate properly in XHTML 1.1. Current-window links are just fine.
I repeatedly get three of the four groups of numbers under the DI logo to go green and I'm starting to think it's not possible to get them all green. !!!!!!!!! Does anyone have any ideas???
Isn't the DriveShaft site just another fan site?
(sigh).......yes Noelle............
Is Driveshaftband.com just a fan site? Can't tell from the anonymized whois info, but the site content is pretty extensive!
Ya, the driveshaft site looks fake to me. As for the numbers going green I can only get 3 as well. BUt could anyone add more info on how to log in with the User name and Password on the www.dharmainitiative.org site? As for the show on Wed night...I think that the person carrying the stuffed bear was Desmond (either him or Alex). Cause I think I remember him grabbing a stuffed animal from the bed as well, Walt's feet aren't white so I don't know...what do you think?
hmmm brian and kerri, i noticed something on the previous page about Walts name being "walt".....but i must be really slow today, what did you mean? was that just a reference to Disney or what?
yeah Sean, I got it as a Disney ref which is what made me laugh about it. Actually, they could've just named him "My Son" since that's all Michael calls him (which is a bit annoying). As far as Driveshaft goes, the band isn't real so I can only assume the site isn't real. I don't care for the songs either but I'm a die-hard Disturbed fan. However, I guess Driveshaft (as it's portrayed for Lost) could get going and cut CD's, tour, blah blah blah and every corporate mogul involved with Lost would be richer...so it could happen.
Oh, another thing, Walt couldn't have been walking w/ that group of shoe-less misfits because he's not white and I saw white(very dirty)legs and feet. I can't remember if Desmond took a stuffed animal but since you mentioned that I have to research it now until I know for sure.....Gee, thanks a lot Patrick! :)
I just watched Orientation and Desmond DID take a bear off his bed...but since we didn't see his face we can't be sure. I did check and see if he was wearing shoes and he was, but he could've just as easily taken them off. It would make sence for Desmond to come back since last time he said "see you in another life" he showed up on the island and he said it a second time so he'll probably show up with the others.
Does anybody think that Dr.Marvin Candle's prosthetic arm could have something to do with the shark?
Does anybody think Dr. Marvin Candle was on the boat as the bearded guy.
At the asylum where the guy that hurly got the numbers from, did anybody notice that the doctor looks like Dr. Candle. Candle could be a false identity.
Could the bearded guy be Kelvin or Dr. DeGroot because in the orientation film he has one, also he is married. Could she be the woman on the boat.
This is from another site.
Actor M.C. Gainey played the bearded man who took Walt on the boat.
M.C. Gainey is also credited in the 5th episode into the 2nd season as "Kelvin".
Kelvin is the guy who taught Desmond to push the button, then (supposedly) died, leaving Desmond all alone.
If he died then, where is his grave?
Now it makes sense about the coordinates. The coast of Nigeria and the island in the Kirbati group.
Did anybody notice that Randy is not only Hugo's boss, but Locke's?
A theory why the second Dharma lab site is empty. The others emptied it to possibly a bigger lab site. However, why don't they attack the survivors if they might guess that they are there.
ok---remind me again please...where did we see a guy with a prosthetic arm at?
ok---remind me again please...where did we see a guy with a prosthetic arm at?
Hey all - I'm new here, but ive been reading all the posts....about the driveshaft website...on the "news and updates" section - they talk about it being a "year" since Charlie's death - they're obviously going by the time the show has been on the air - not the timeline on the show...cause as of the end of the first season, they had only been there a matter of weeks - and season 2 picks up right where 1 left off...so in reality, its only been a few weeks. just another point to add to the evidence that driveshaftmusic.com or whatever is not from Disney.
hey gang---now i know i am obsessed (and bordering on Star Trek-geekdom). it's one am in NY and i'm online looking for further clues for this god---- show and all the viral crap. Argh!
Couple things: what the heck are people talking about with...ethan nom/other man nothing clicks on the dharmainitiative login; Thomas Gibson as Greg...Dang Disney! can't you keep it in your pants---you have to use Greg from "dharma and greg" as greg in another ABC show that refers to Dharma! oy vey. And, Kerri, how do you even get the login access to show three green on the login page? I can't even get one...sistah, spare a dime!
And lastly, totally non-sequitor, saw Kiss Kiss bang bang tonight. pretty funnny movie with a lot of "inside" references to Hollywood...just thought I'd share since I loved the movie and figure like minds think alike--go see it.
To get the numbers to go green you have to hover the mouse over the screen at certain points within a certain time or it'll go red. The mostly muppet site from above has a picture of where to put the mouse. I still don't know what the login name and password is. If anyone could help that would be great (I'm hearing a whole bunch of different things and I just need an answer). Thanks...
Well someone (It's getting hard to keep up with all the forums I read) said that the Dharma site w/ the User Name and Password requirement is a hoax cuz it's registered to someone in Arizona and the source code reads something like text=invalid so that anything you type in won't let you in. If anyone else read that, tell me where. Also, on the OTHER Dharma site where the IP address is flashing, I didn't use the hotspot approach on the diagrams I've seen. I found three definitive hotspots but the order in which I hovered the mouse on them made a difference as to whether or not the numbers turned green and the order seemed to change so I got pissed and just started moving my mouse frantically all over the logo from top to bottom and "voila"...all three numbers went green each time and it happened every time I did that. So good luck. Aren't there genious hackers out there who can break these mysteries?? As for the teddy bear, it could be that Desmond was taken by the Others and one of them took a fancy to his bear so it isn't Desmond at all. But I have no doubt that he's alive and will return. And Kelvin, we have no idea if he really died, Desmond just knows he didn't come back. And the shark, on that episode I was so freaked out that Sawyer would be eaten that I never saw a logo. But I think every creature, explainable or otherwise is controlled by the island or the Initiative. Nothing is an accident apparently, except for Ana-Lucia being a real bother. She'd better chill or Sawyer's gonna have her ass. I don't see Kate taking a liking to her either, but Kate has yet to prove her worth in my opinion.
I need someone else to read this. This just might be the answer. Paulo, what do you think??

(Today is my free day so I may post all day) :)
SERIOUSLY! Check out the site mentioned above. This is the best theory I have read so far about Lost. Everybody should look at this. At first it sounds farfetched, but when you think about it, it begins to make sense. Excellent site. Someone has been doing their homework. There is some errors, but they are corrected by later posts. To me this is the best answer to Lost I have seen yet:) !!!!!
They think the show is set around the year 2012. There are pics that Micheal did for Walt dated 2003. which they assume is for his 3rd birthday. They are forgetting one important thing. Sawyer and Jack's dad were in the bar before Sawyer was about to go on the plane. "That is why the Red Sox will never win the World Series." Obviously, the Red Sox won the series in 2004, if it was set in 2012, that old saying would be obsolete. That right there shoots a serious hole through the theory.
I nearly forgot. When you are on that site i mentioned above, it talks about the end of the world and how it ties with atlantis. What they say is on the web. Go onto google and type in December 23, (one of the numbers!) 2012. You will get all sort of stuff about how the world is supposed to end. Also on the site it said that according to Lindeloff, that the number 23 will play a significant role throughout the show. Already we have seen it as the amount of Kate's reward for capture, and as the number of the tail end of the plane survivors before they were dwindled down to a few. Just interesting and you should read about it.
The date December 23, 2012. If the Dharma initative was started in 1970. It was to be run to the end of the world. If it is set in 2012, it would have been 42 years. Just some more math for thought.
And finally, has anyone considered the old Mayan math of dots and bars approach to the dharma symbol? Just putting down whatever comes to mind.
Have a cluckity cluck cluck day!
Dearest Jayhawk.....you just made my cluckity day!! While I was driving today I started thinking about the Red Sox and since I'm not a baseball fan I wanted to find out when they last won the world series but I got side-tracked. Now I don't have to! But Jakc's Dad didn't say they NEVER won. Maybe if we look at the context of his saying it'd put it in better perspective. And the Lost creators never said the plane went down in 2004, it's directly quoted on several spoiler sites! I'm getting ready to do some Dec. 23, 2012 research myself. I'm tellin' ya....this as got to be one of the most intelligently written tv shows ever. Oh, and has anyone been to Bigspaceship1.com today? Very weird. Oh, one more thing...I have a serious issue w/ the 23 people who survived from the back of the plane. NO WAY could a human survice that fall. On land they'd bounce and water would break them apart like glass.
ok, just read all four pages of Pubs www.4815162342 website. Very good Atlantis theory. Im going with this one until new info is obtained. On a side note, does anyone watch Stargate Atlantis? They use a ZPM to power the island, thats Zero Point Module, a devise that harnesses tremendoes power. Just mentioning the whole zero point connection. Very cool stuff indeed !!
Regarding the mrclucks.com site, I'm convinced now that it's a hoax. On the site, at the bottom where it usually reads, "Website by 4815 Designs"....it flashes the text, "Website by not by ABC......by someone who knowz". (the typo is in there, that wasn't me). Anyway, if you click it, you go to the ipod page that has been there but there's a button underneath..."Seacrest Out". So I click it and it takes me to another site, a blog type site and if you notice, there's an article about Ryan Seacrest. The article is by Anna and if you click her name...here's what you get....
"Anna is a former television producer and radio news director who lowered her standards to join her husband in a crazy internet experiment."
The website that kerri gave us has been updated. I didn't notice that Desmond had a Dharma symbol on his shirt when he was in the flashback with Jack. Desmond's "I'll see you in another life" could be a reference to Dharma's 'extended life experiment'or to time travel. I am now starting to doubt whether or not Desmond has been honest with the survivors. Him living in that hatch for all those years... I think he may have run off to find the others who are also a part of the Dharma experiment to notify them of the survivors now at the hatch.
I defintely like how the theory explains the submarine like hatch cover, and the Black Rock. IF the ship sunk, it would explain the skeletons still attached in chains, because if they drowned, they wouldn't have gone anywhere would they? :)
In my earlier post about the Red Sox, can somebody look back and get the actual quote. I was only recalling that quote from memory.
"Illuminati Trilogy" by Robert Anton Wilson is about Atlantis being a traveling island. I am currently looking for it on amazon to buy. I think this book will be a key part to unraveling Lost.
jay,
Jack says to Sawyer: "That's why the Red Sox will never win the Series."
That's verbatim from Lost Clip #17, as shown on the oceanicflight815.com website, if you want to check it yourself.
i've been trying to find the earlier clip w/ Sawyer and Jack's dad in the bar to see if it's an identical quote, but i haven't been able to locate it yet.
hey,
anyone checked out bigspaceship1.org lately? there are three doctor's names on the top left corner. the first one is Dr. Sharon Alva, an obvious anagram for Alvar Hanso. the second name is Dr. Marvin Candle, and the third is a Dr. Orin Selenicci. any guesses as to what anagrams might work for both of these?
There has been NO speculation as to the actual quote from Jack's father. The CONTEXT in which the quote was used (that means sentences spoken before the quote)is what may us put together a more acurate time line. Please pay attention.
Gee? I just totally got snippy! Sorry Jo! Anyway, bigspaceship is now a collection of waving almonds with a green background. I'm afraid to stare at it too long. I may go "nuts".....(sorry, couldn't resist) :)
thx for throwin' me under the bus, k. i fully understand the meaning of "context" (and i have been paying attention, just not as busy posting lately). also, i was just tryin' to help jay out w/ his request for the "actual quote."
Thanks jomama for the quote. Now like kerri said, we need to figure out the context in which it was spoken. That would be beneficial to figuring out a timeline.
I looked at bigspaceship and I have to agree with going 'nuts'. Did you notice that they have black and white half rings around it? Would that have to do with a theme of lost?
JO, I'm soooooo sorry. Consider yourself now pulled out from under the bus. I promise I'll behave from now on. Ok, ya'll need to watch this. It'll lighten the mood for a few minutes. My husband and I just sat here laughing our asses off. Click the Lost movie.
http://www.newgrounds.com/portal/view/272811
My God there were a crapload of anagrams for the names Marvin Candle and Orin Selenicci. One that stood out for Marvin Candle was "mean dr calvin".
Jay, on my computer the rings on the almonds are brown and white. But you can right click and save the picture as a gif so I've been trying to "see" another picture in there, like those Mind's Eye books.
kerri, I saved the picture as jpg. You're right. It is brown in white. I just wasn't looking close enough. There goes the black and white theory. Do you think they have nut trees on the island? :) I am going to watch your movie here real soon. I have dial up so it is kind of slow.
Do you notice it only moves when your eyes move. Just stop your eyes and stare it doesn't move then. I counted it already and its 12 X 18 = 216 I haven't figured a connection yet to the 'numbers'.
I just realized it. 216 divided by 2 is 108! I saw it as i just posted it. What does 2 have to do with it? I don't know yet but there you go. 108! Twice as nuts to put the numbers in! :)
Hey Jay, did you read what I wrote about the mrclucks.com earlier? Well, I did some more research on "Anna", the woman who used to be a tv producer and is now doing a "crazy internet experiment with her husband". She may be behind mrclucks and bigspaceship. I don't know how to see how a site is registered to? Can anyone tell me how to do that? Well, my husband and I (all he did was watch the show w/ me until I started telling him about all this stuff and now he's a die-hard) tracked mrclucks to redbunny.com Click on Anna Johns. AND, if you source code mrclucks you see this:
http://track.mybloglog.com/js/jsserv.php?mblID=2005100718081844
That's a tracking code site so whoever made mrclucks will know who goes to the site and then where they go when they leave. Sounds like an "internet experiment" to me.
Also, could the lines around the Dharma logo be morse code since they're all different? My husband is in the other room getting letters for each line/slash around the logo. Wonder what he'll come up with.
K, i don't think the lines have anything to do w/ Morse Code. if you look at the Ba Gua wheel, it's an exact duplicate but w/ one notable exception: the Dharma logo is an inverted representation of the Ba Gua wheel (North is South, and vice versa). i have to do more research on Ba Gua charts to figure out what the different dashes mean. all i know so far is that each set of dashes corresponds to a different point on the compass. what this has to do with Dharma, Hanso, and Lost is still TBD. at least we're all havin' fun trying to figure it out! thx for the link to "Lost Rhapsody." Weird Al, Queen, and the Lost Cast, what a weird match-made-in-hell that is!
I searched google about "Anna Johns" and the first few hits were interesting. A Anna Johns worked for NBC stations and was a freelance writer. It defintely sounds like an 'experiment'to me.
I looked on amazon about the Illuminati book, but i having doubts about buying it now. It sounds like a conspiracy book according to the reviews.
Let me know how the morse code comes! :)
A site/company @ http://bigspaceship.com/v3/ made the LOST website, and others. So I think Anna Johns has nothing to do with the bigspaceship site.
here's an interesting link for background on the Chinese i Ching and Ba Gua philosophies. the eight trigrams surrounding the Dharma Initiative logo are definitely taken straight from the i Ching:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bagua_%28concept&29
there's another link here on use of i Ching hexagram and trigram symbols in Unicode language. not sure if this is pertinent or not. but it is certainly possible that the trigrams in the Dharma symbols indicate some type of computer code that can be interpreted in several different languages. i believe that the trigrams are not morse code, but some other type of code, prehaps Unicode, and probably readable by the bunker's archaic computer system. now we just have to figure out what they mean.
also, wikipedia has compiled a decent overview of Lost, which you can link to here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lost_%28TV_series%29
Jo, I agree that the wikipedia overview is excellent. It even proves that the shark DID have the DI logo on it. I saw one little picture of it on another forum and read several people who seemed to take offense to the idea that DI would put a logo on a shark and that the whole idea was ridiculous. Thanks for leading me there. I enjoyed it.
Who are these kids?? That's the teddy bear! I swear it is.
http://www.lost-media.com/modules/coppermine/albums/ep-promos/sea2/48days/normal_48days-promo12.jpg
Hey! I was visiting another forum and found this new Dharma Initiative film!! Watch it and let's talk about it!!
http://rapidshare.de/files/6550202/HansoClassification4-16-81.wmv.html
Kerri, that film explains what Dharma was into. I downloaded it, and will look at it closer when I find some free time. Great job at finding that. At least we know now what each site did. Do you notice that it went from 3 to 5 when the 4th symbol should have been numbered 4 not 5. I also looked at those photos you linked earlier, I don't know if that teddy bear is the same, but it does look familiar. Did you notice the date? 4-16-81. 4 and 16 are part of the numbers. Everybody else should download and see this film if they are interested in all of Dharma's initatives.
If anybody has the time, could they possibly filter it clearer so we actually can see the fine text and the lab scene.
kerri: whoa, how'd you find the link to the new Hanso film?! that's a lot of info to digest! i'm such a geek w/ this that i had to pause it to take notes! i knew the info on the other 5 Dharma Initiatives would come up sooner or later. i noticed that not only are all the Dharma logos different, so are the trigrams surrounding each of them. and the logo for Station 4 looks very similar to the one in the new bunker (Eko's/Ana's/Bernard's/Libby's, et al). i'm guessing we are to assume that all of these initiatives are, or have been, taking place on the island. also, did the end of the film make any sense to you? the guy in the white robe could be Alvar Hanso, but who's the guy who appears after him, partially shadowed. could that be Gerald DeGroot? also, the photo you found on the other link makes no sense yet. who indeed are those two children, and what do they have to do w/ Ana Lucia? i'm guessing it's either a leaked still from an upcoming episode, an outtake from a deleted scene, or simply a hoax to throw us all off. your thoughts?!
Yes, I did notice they skip 4! I don't think the film can be filtered since it's made to look exactly the way it looks. Frame stills would be the only way to analyze it better. I'm wondering if that guy's face that they focus on towards the end is Gerald DeGroot? And yeah, I think that's Hanso, the guy w/ white hair. However, here's a link where one of the TV bigwigs says to "beware of fake Hanso sites".
http://thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=23566
I noticed somthing in the film-when each BaGua comes up, there are black dots that appear briefly. The dots on the first 2 Ba's show up where the hot spots are from Horse Girls Diagram. I tried using the dots from the 3rd Ba but could couldn't get it to go green. I know everyone said the Dharma info page is a fake page but could the movie be the key to open that page???
Oh my God....I'm totally trippin! Check this out. Look at this picture of a hypercube.
http://www.festomuvesz.hu/krobath/kepek/TN_Hypercube.JPG
Now, what does that look like????? Now, on the oceanic815.com site, I remembered going to the Explore tab and clicking on the little white dots and watching the videos. Well, I did that a couple of times and guess what??? A hypercube appears!! So????? What does that mean?? I'm not that smart, I need help!
WOW, I have no idea how you found that video but what a great find. Wasn't the symbole missing from the other hatch? (the one where the tail enders were)...anyways I made a mistake earlier when I said Desmond grabbed the bear, it was a stuffed Rabbit (sorry bout that). There are pictures however from the "Other 48 Days" episode and there's a picture of a little girl holding a bear (stuffed that is), make what you will of it.
http://www.thetailsection.com/gallery/displayimage-14-11.html
kerri - i went to the site you found to watch the 2nd film, but once i got there it was just the Rapid Share page and nothing about the hanso film could be found.....any ideas?
i need to watch it again. i remember a different symbol from any shown in the film. it was a simple cross shape, composed of 2 thin straight lines. it's similar in appearance to Station 4's vertical arrow through the horizontal Dharma text (only without the arrow or the text!). i'm 95% convinced the photo of Ana w/ the 2 kids is an intentionally leaked still from an upcoming episode. the mouse likes to keep us guessing!
Well, remember I said this and we'll see if I'm wrong, but I think Ana is totally NOT who she claims to be. I'm not saying she's bad, because that's the obvious impression we're given, but she's not on the up & up. I DO believe that's the same teddy bear. I mean, come on! Why is that little girl holding a teddy bear in that photo?
And Sean, I'll take a look at the site w/ the other video and see what's up.
Sean, go back to the link and scroll down where you have to pick a Free or Premium account. Click Free then wait about 5 seconds. Then the download will start. If you have more trouble let me know.
Everyone might be interested in reading this interview w/ Damon Lindelof. He reveals some good things about the show.
http://www.eonline.com/Gossip/Kristin/Trans/Lindelof/
I think the woman in these photos look the same.
The smack addict in Charlie's hotel room:
http://lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=486&pos=312
Walt's nanny in Australia:
http://lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=172&pos=515
so you wanna hear something funny? i bought a lottery ticket today and for fun played the "lost" numbers. the whole lottery terminal shut down. No joke. Kinda Creepy!! yikes
hard to tell if the two women are the same. there is certainly a very strong resemblance, but it's impossible to tell for sure. it would make for yet another interesting plot twist, to say the least. i enjoyed the Lindelof interview, particularly the bit about revealing something through Vincent's p.o.v. wonder what that was all about, and who spilled it too?!
Does anyone else think Walt's mom was involved w/ the Hanso Foundation?? I believe she was, totally.
it wouldn't surprise me, at this point. i was wrong about the newest Dharma Initiative logo. it is identical to the one seen in the new Hanso film for Station 4 (a vertical arrow through horizontal Dharma text). just checked out J.M. Berger's blog at egoplex.com where they've posted a captured still of it. i couldn't quite make it out on my TV, and i'm glad somebody else could.
Well, I posted this on another forum, regarding Walt's mom. Check out this photo of Walt's mom's house.
http://lost-media.com/modules.php?name=coppermine&file=displayimage&album=172&pos=517
The only reason the camera had to shoot Michael like that was to get a look at the ceiling. So here goes my crazy idea.....I think Walt's mom was involved in an experiment w/ the Dharma Initiative and knew she'd have a "special" baby. I think she had the baby with Michael because it'd be easy to take the kid away from him. I think Walt's mom died from the same sickness the people on the island did. I don't think Walt's anger killed him mom like it killed the bird. It was the island sickness. And she moved to Australia to be closer to the island.
wow, i totally missed the symbol on the ceiling! i think you're on target re: Walt's mom. i've had trouble believing that she moved to Australia for a new job. why uproot your young child, abandoning all family & friends, to drag him halfway across the globe for some new law job? there aren't enough of those in the states?! and most parents i know value stability for their children more than their own self-interests. i think she was involved somehow w/ Hanso and, perhaps unknowingly, part of one of the Dharma Initiatives. if we are to believe that the latest Hanso film is real, the Initiative Classification for Station 6 was Human Advancement. as you say, she knew he was "special" and maybe she took him to Australia to be tested by the Hanso folks. she couldn't admit that to Michael, however, so maybe she made up the story about the job opportunity.
Well, I just watched the rerun of "Adrift" on ABC. Now I'm not sure how Walt's mom ended up in Australia because during the scene with the custody lawyers, she was saying she was taking Walt to Rome to be a senior partner at the firm. So I don't remember how they ended up in Aussie. However, the toy Michael gave Walt in the park, right before his mom took him, was.....get this.....a stuffed polar bear.
yeah, i figured that out last night too. somehow i missed the part about Susan taking Walt to Rome the first time it aired. in the custody hearing, they said she had also taken him to Amsterdam. that may be the beginning of her connection to Hanso. here's something puzzles me about last night's rerun: the first time it aired i swear i saw the D.I. logo on the side of the shark, just before you see the tail go by. but in last night's version, the symbol was not there! i have Tivo, so i could rewind and freeze-frame it on the shark. in an earlier post you said you could not see it in the first airing. it goes by so fast that it's nearly impossible to notice at normal speed. but i swear to you that it was there in the original airing! i paused it, rewound it, and freeze-framed it several times and saw the D.I. swan logo very clearly. my point is that you had to be able to freeze-frame it to really see it. but in last night's rerun, i did that several times and it simply was not there anymore! i think ABC may have aired a slightly different re-cut of the episode just to mess with us! that may also explain how we missed the part about Susan taking Walt to Rome the first time.
another thing that struck me about last night's rerun was the homage to Brando in "Apocalyse Now." did anyone notice in the scene where Locke first enters the bunker that it looked eerily similar to the scene in A.N. where you see Kurtz for the first time? Locke enters slowly from the shadows of the hatch shaft, much like Brando emerged from the shadows the first time you see him in the film. i watched it in super slo-mo and the image of Kurtz immediatly came to mind. i think that's the producers' subtle little nod to Coppola.
I never saw AN so that part would have been "lost" on me (hahahaha), but I was specifically looking for that damned logo on the shark. But yeah, I was like, "hey, there's NO way someone watching this saw a logo cuz that fin was out of water for 1 second and the angle of it wasn't clear enough" so I was really confused about it. I think you're right. It was cut.
in the first airing, the logo was only seen in the one underwater shot of Sawyer as he's swimming for the pontoon. the shark passes through the frame, going from left to right between the camera and Sawyer, and when I freeze-framed it there was a Dharma logo on the side just in front of the tail. didn't see that in last night's airing, but i swear it was there before!
is it just me or were the apollo candy bars the only thing in the pantry with a brand name on it? everything else seemed to have a dharma logo on it.
yeah, that's the only name i really noticed. none of the other stuff was actually featured, it was really just background. there was a shot of Hurley eating from a bag of chips, but i couldn't tell what fake brand name was on the bag. i think we all noticed "Apollo" b/c they did a close up of him munching on it, and then featured it again as Rose slid it into her pocket for Bernard. could anyone tell if there was a brand name on the jar of peanut butter he gave to Charlie?
No, as I remember the peanut butter had a white labe with "PEANUT BUTTER" in black letters. Intersting about the Apollo bars though. So that's three times the Apollo bar was the focus. 1)Kate 2)Hurley and 3)Rose.....but wasn't there a scene somewhere when someone asked, "What's an Apollo bar?" Maybe Hurley was telling Charlie and Charlie had never heard of it, I can't remember. But still, isn't it odd that a candy bar named "Apollo" is focused on so much? Maybe the survivors are on another planet.
I found this picture on a site from an upcoming episode:

Notice it's a bird on a stick? Well if you go to http://megalottojackpot.com/ and click the blank space under the fake ads on the right it send you to another page:

Notice the bottom it says Believe in the cat. And Bird on a stick?
Just thought I'd throw it out there.
Sorry to double post but I've been reading up on Lost for about 5 hours and it's 5am and I'm still here.
On that same site in the images directory I found these too:

Notice it says catbirddharma ... there's that bird on a stick thing again.

The one on the right reminds me of a horses leg. If I find anything else I'm sure I'll post. I have the 5 new episodes of the new series on a dvd so I'll go back and let you know if I can see the logo on the shark (I'll post a screenshot) and I'm sure I'll watch the videos and look at the others more closely too.
Uhm... Bird on a stick? Isn't it just a piece of wood that they're trying to set fire on with the old wood-on-wood technique?
yeah, i don't really see the "Bird on a Stick" thing either. the photo from "The Other 48 Days" looks like he's just trying to start a fire. how much you wanna bet the guy in the photo is the guy Eko and Jin found impaled in the jungle? i think Eko said his name is "Godley." it's also interesting to note that the progression of Dharma logos on megalottojackpot.com shows the 2 we've seen and 2 new ones that we haven't seen yet. i'm not sure if these are "real" or not, since they're not in the latest Hanso film either. could be a hoax, who knows?
The shark did have the logo on its tail by the way. I can't make out which logo it is though.

I don't know if this has been mentioned either but the stuff Desmund injected into himself in 2x01 has the numbers on it.

i thought it was the Dharma swan logo when i saw it the first time. now i'm not so sure. it doesn't resemble any D.I. logo we've seen yet, including the 6 in the 2nd Hanso film. there's a pretty wild theory on the ABC forum board for Lost from a guy who claims The Others can morph back and forth into the black smoke. they sometimes take the form of humans, as we've seen in the boat and in the group Jin & Eko saw walking through the jungle. this person claims to have inside knowledge and also claims that when the others are in the form of the black smoke they can infect the survivors with the disease.

okay, any thoughts on Dr. Marvin Candle? i've been looking at it for a couple of days now and have come up with Calvin Randem/Ramden/Marend/Nedmar/Denmar/Derman, etc. this only makes sense if you believe Desmond's partner's name was "Calvin" and not "Kelvin." it could also be a simple pun to amuse us, and probably means nothing.
Don't believe a word of what Shimmyo says on ABC.com.....he's a verified hoax.
I remember somewhere, something said, "Look for the easter eggs". Damn, I totally can't remember where. But as soon as
