The Subway incident assumes racism, which may well be the case, but I'm thinking there's a pretty good chance those persons (I can't bring myself to call them either "women" or "ladies") would have treated a white employee the same way.
I agree with Valerie, and I'm a bit bothered by the undercurrent of anti-Southern bigotry in the description of the women and their accent.
