Ne’er

Ne’er under heav’n have I sung a Christian hymn which treated the words “heaven,” “never,” “ever,” or “given” as having anything more than a single syllable. E’er.

  2. My conservative music teachers would have classified “Heavenly Sunlight” as a “Gospel Song”. ;)

*grin* Aw, you have to cut ‘em a little slack! After all, English has far less rhyming words than, say, Italian, (though admittedly more than German). We just have to cut corners a little in order to fill all those hymnals :-D

No “Jeebus,” (and those petty Jebus jokes annoy me mightily) but I remember singing a hymn once which used the archaic “Jesu” to force a rhyme. It annoyed me too.
