House Call

The phone rings. Being the only one in the office this morning, I pick it up and look at the handset to read the Caller ID: “U.S. Capitol.”

“Hello, this is Paulo.”

“Hello? Oops, sorry, I have the wrong number.”

“Oh, okay.” Click.

Have I mentioned how much I love living in DC?

My cell-phone number is very close to that of a certain Representative’s, 255-xxxx instead of 225-xxxx. One-digit difference, and it’s a repeated digit, so it’s an easy mistake to make. I get lots of missed calls and hang-ups, but what surprises me is the number of people who actually leave messages. I don’t think I sound very Congressional office staffer-ish on my out-going message.
